this paper is a case study of the cause of distress and evaltion of main runway (29 l-ll r) of mahrabad international airport in 1320 , this run way was built (1800 length & 60 width ) from pcc for small aircrafts. later on 1329 and 13 39 the length of this run way was inc reased to 3000 m and 4000m , respectedly was increased to 3000m and 4000m,respectedly .since 1320, this run wa y h a s bee nasphalt overlayed three times (for thickness of overdays see fig. l - a ) . at the present time this run way has a lot o f distress including longitudinal transverse and alligator cracks. on the heavy traffic area intensity of distress and setlement is such that this run way is not safe for the operation of jet aircrafts especen jet fighters. based of field studies and the results of several soil mechanics of different layers of existing pavement and the amount of airevaft traffic, some recommendution for overlays has been presented . it has been sugested that the first section of the run way (km 0+000 to 3+000) to be/5 asphalt overlayed and the remaining length of run way which has less distress to be 11 overlayed.
